Gratitude is a choice that we can choose to have. Ungratefulness can settle in and steal the joy out of so many of our lives. Let’s find ways to be grateful and create a better life and home for it.
The weight of life can be challenging. Choices we make everyday can lead us down a path we want or a path we do not want. Each of us has the ability to create positive thoughts and produce an “attitude of gratitude”.
If you are a momma like me, you may have experienced feelings of ungratefulness. We see so many other moms who we think have it all. They have well behaved kids, larger houses, better gardens, make more money, etc. You get the idea. Getting sucked into this negative cycle can lead us to be ungrateful instead of grateful for what we do have.
We can also simply be selfish in our hearts, which in turn, creates an ungrateful heart. There are times when I would prefer to do my own thing instead of read to my kids or push them on the swing. I know in these moments that I need to recognize my heart posture and either change it or pray for gratitude for being able to spend time with my children. Yes there are times when our own desires can be fulfilled, but there are also times for sharing moments with our kids. Making a thoughtful choice will be what is best for everyone.
Gratitude found in Scripture
When I start noticing my ungratefulness, I first of all, go to the Lord in prayer. There are several scripture passages that I want to share that can focus our hearts on having gratitude.
~ Philippians 4:11-12 “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”
~ Psalm 106.1 “Praise the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
~ Psalm 107.21 “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.”
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Using positive and encouraging words, such as these Bible verses, can really shed a fresh light on how grateful we should be.

Our heart posture can be full of gratitude if we so choose. Guard our mind and heart from the things that can drag us down. Be joyful in all we have, in all the people we get to care for and in all the tasks we get to do for our people we love.
