Having thrifted finds for our tiny guest home made for a lovely, currated and affordable space to have. Getting thrifted pieces is the way to shop these days.

Our tiny home is a 450 square foot space used as a guest cottage. My husband and I made this old wood working shop into an up-to-date little guest home. We did a gut job of the space and worked our way through the designing, creating and making of a cute space (if I do say so myself). Finding all the aesthetic pieces to make this house a home was my favorite part. For many months, maybe even a year, I kept a list of what I wanted to find second hand. Perusing Facebook Marketplace often and thrift stores was how I found so many of the items in this home.
MAIN LIVING SPACE – THRIFTED FURNITURE
Couch
The couch had to be a little smaller and also contain a pull-out bed. It was quite a steal to find this $200 dark gray couch. A great condition piece that adds so much warmth with the gray color to the cottage.
Rug
A darker, more colorful rug was ideal for this space with having higher foot traffic. This was another great bargain at $100 for a Ralph Lauren area rug.
Vintage Blue Chair
To be honest, I cannot remember if I found it online or in a thrift store, but I do know it was around $25. I enjoy adding older pieces in with newer ones for a more collected look.

Drop leaf table
The table for the cottage needed to be small, so a vintage drop leaf table was a beautiful idea. This was a $45 Facebook Marketplace find. The table is near 100 years old and adds a charm to the space.
Dining Chairs
Facebook Marketplace for the win. You will see that is a repeated theme here. Anyway, we found a set of 4 cane seated chairs for $90. I did stain them a little darker color. Two of the chairs are at the table and one is used to hold a basket of towels in the bathroom.

Side Table
With being such a small home, a large coffee table was not the best option. Instead, we found this side table (which did come with a coffee table) for $15.
Bench
A place to sit and put on shoes is rather important. This refurbished antique store find was $25. The dark wood and pop of green gives a cozy cottage vibe to the more neutral space.
BEDROOM, BATHROOM & OUTSIDE – THRIFTED FINDS
Night Stands
With minimal side space next to the beds, I was on the hunt for narrow night stands. It took lots of lookings on Marketplace, but we found the pair for $65. They fit my aesthetic beautifully and are super durable.

Dresser to Vanity
In the bathroom I wanted to try my hand at a DIY dresser to vanity. This beautiful three drawer dresser was wood color that I painted. A lovely dresser of this quality was $60! Here is the video on our step by step process of our DIY.
Wardrobe
One of my favorite finds for the cottage and a very useful one at that is this wardrobe. With not having any closets in the space, we knew we needed somewhere to have hanging clothes and also storage for cleaning supplies. Another Facebook Marketplace score for $85!
Bistro Chairs
Seating outside is a nice touch. Our walkway is very small, so I knew some minimal seating would be best. This set of black bistro chairs was again, another Marketplace find for $45.

ALL THE LITTLE THINGS – THRIFTED FINDS
Since so much of our guest cottage furniture was second hand, I figured that I might as well shop for all the “extras” second hand as well.
- Any of the whicker style baskets in our cottage are thrift store or garage sale finds. They are used for things from trash bins to towel holders to toy baskets!
- The throw blankets are second hand, just washed and put out or tucked in our under bed storage for use.
- Kitchen gadgets, measuring utensils and serving spoons were a great rummage sale find.
- The dishes on the open shelves were FREE! A friend had several sets of dishes and did not want these any longer.
- Baking and cooking pots. Some of these were garage sale finds.
- Books! I have a stack of books on top of the wardrobe that were found either free or second hand.

There is so much to be found at thrift stores or second hand! As you can tell from everything that we used to furnish our guest cottage, thrifting is worth the time and money savings.
