Spring cleaning basics are helpful for anyone who desires to improve the quality & cleanliness of a home. Here are a few standards to follow when tackling the yearly Spring cleaning.

Break it down
When it comes to Spring cleaning tackling the whole house at once is very daunting. We live in a small home and I still do not look at the big picture immediately. Create a room by room list of what areas need to be cleaned.
If you are needing extra help in this area, my Weekly Cleaning Checklist is a good starting point. For many years now, I have cleaned a room in my house each weekday. Monday is bedrooms, Tuesday is Porches, Wednesday the kitchen, etc… This system has worked so well for our family and the whole house gets cleaned throughout the week. This can also be applied to our Spring cleaning regiment.
Use the right products
Having the right cleaning tools can be really helpful. In our home we keep our cleaning supply pretty basic but effective.

- Dyson Vacuum – This is a recent purchase that has been amazing!
- DIY 3 Ingredient All-Purpose cleaner – My basic three ingredient spray is what I’ve used for years. Plus it’s safe for the entire family.
- Dish soap – Every household has this on hand.
- Hot water – Add some of that dish soap to a bucket and do some scrubbing. Simple, yet still effective.
- Spray bottles – Having a few glass bottles on hand for the All-purpose spray and any other cleaners is a must.
- Rags – These are much more practical than paper towel. Don’t buy any of these, just use old wash clothes or dish clothes. You can even go as far as using old t-shirts or socks!
- Duster wands – A few of these are great for hard to reach places, high corners and easy for kids to use!
- Lemon essential oil – Add drops of this to the DIY spray or use it to get sticky residue off of any surface.
- Bar Keepers Friend – This is not natural, but it really does some good work on sinks, bathtubs, stovs and crusted on places.
- Sponge – A more abrasive sponge is helpful for scrubbing.
- Old toothbrush – Those grooves and creases in the bathroom or around faucets get good cleaning with this handy tool.
Getting down to it
When it comes to actually doing the Spring cleaning, it truly just takes time. If you really want to make Spring cleaning a true deal, make sure to allow enough time. Don’t plan on going out and about as much during the days or week that you want to tackle this project. Keep meals simple. Have some quicker meals like my taco skillet bake or white chicken chili for those busy cleaning days.
Having help is also a good idea. If kids are age appropriate for certain tasks, delegate those to them. Training kids to help maintain a home is very beneficial for there future selves. Also, if a spouse is willing to pitch in, by all means let them have at it!
Now that you know what you need to do and some tools to help you with the Spring cleaning, it’s time to actually go and do it. Enjoy making your home a clean and fresh space!
