Decorating for the Fall season can be done with minimal expense and still look beautiful! These fall home decor ideas will be just the thing if you want to stay within a budget.
I love this time of year with the crisp mornings, changing colors, cozy sweaters and warm drinks. With that said, it is also time to change out the decor for the Autumn season. My home is rather small, so I like to keep my decor simple yet beautiful.

There are so many ways to decorate for Fall. Some people do all the fall colors, some buy all brand new from Hobby Lobby and others second hand shop and forage for natural decor. I tend to lean toward the latter. Fall home decor can be found out in nature and also affordably by shopping second hand or clearance.

Since Fall decor doesn’t stay up in my home for barely more than two months, I feel like affordable decor is the best option. Here are some items I like to use in my home for the Fall season:
- wheat stems
- Fall pillows & covers
- real & faux pumpkins
- dried foliage (flowers, branches, grass stems)
- candles
- scarves and blankets
- produce (fruits and squashes)
- copper
- art work
Keep in mind that some of these pieces can continue into the Christmas and winter season. An even better option for staying on a budget!!
Wheat Stems ~ Fall Home Decor
Wheat stems are very fall inspired, especially here in the midwest. My wheat stems are originally from Hobby Lobby and Amazon. To stay more frugal however, asking a farmer to cut some for you would be even more ideal! I love the way the stems look in my front entry in the crock and on my built- ins.

Pumpkins ~ Fall Home Decor
What doesn’t say Fall like pumpkins!? Using real and faux pumpkins add such a lovely touch to any home. My small white pumpkins are from Amazon and are great to save from year to year. The real pumpkins can cost a bit more. If you can find a local pumpkin patch or small family farm (like I did), then the pumpkins tend to be more affordable.

I have styled different pumpkins on my side table, by our television, on my kitchen counter and truly on almost any flat surface.
Dried Foliage ~ Fall Home Decor
Dried flowers, branches and other plants can bring a nice cottage farmhouse feel to any fall home decor. Last year I used dried hydrangeas all around my home. This year I wanted to incorporate a similar feel, but with other dried plants and grasses. Cut branches from your back yard, add some ornamental grass stems to a crock, hang herbs to dry and put some dried hydrangeas in a pitcher. Free to me is always the best way to go when it comes to decor!

Candles ~ Fall Home Decor
Fall home decor does not always have to mean pumpkins and leaves. The days get shorter in the Fall and candles add that warmth and coziness that we all enjoy. These beeswax candles in some of my thrifted bronze candle holders add such a nice glow to my Fall home.

Scarves and Blankets ~ Fall Home Decor
When the weather cools down, a practical piece of decor is blankets and scarves. Plaid scarves are abundant at thrift stores and look charming hanging on a hook, over a chair or on even strewn across a bed. Same goes for blankets. Who doesn’t enjoy sitting under a cozy blanket, drinking a hot beverage and reading a book by candle light?!
Produce ~ Fall Home Decor
Decorating with fruits and vegetables truly works for any season. This time of year though we can think of pears, apples and squashes as the main produce that are abundant. Using fruits and vegetables as decor is extremely budget-friendly, especially if you grow your own! My pears in the copper colander are just an example of fruit that was grown and gifted to me by my parents. If you do not have your own fruit trees or squash plants, as neighbors who have trees or find a local farmer.

Copper ~ Fall Home Decor
This is again another item that does not have to be used only around Fall time. Copper tea kettles, mugs, colandars, candle sticks, etc, can all be used to add warmth to a home for the Autumn season. My colandar and tea kettle in my kitchen were, of course, thrifted finds. I can’t share enough how much I love finding home decor second hand!

Well friends, that is what I have on frugal fall home decor. Hit up a thrift store or doing a little shopping online to find some of these bargains to decorate your home for the Autumn season.
