It is apple season around here and that means all the apple recipes. We love making apple butter, apple sauce, apple pies, breads, and anything apple! This fruit grows abundantly around our parts, so I am often given gallons of apples to work with.

So let’s just jump right in and enjoy this seasonal fruit with this delicious apple crisp recipe!

FAQS

A crisp is different than a crumble or cobbler. The crumble and cobbler are a simpler topping without the oats.

The best oats to use for making the crisp topping just right are quick oats. Rolled oats work fine to, but I prefer the quick cooking type.

When picking an apple for this crisp recipe a combination of sweeter and tart works well. I have made this recipe with all kinds of apples, however, green apples in combination with a red apple is my favorite.

Frozen apples or not?! If you have apples from the freezer just defrost them and strain off some of the excess liquid. Adding a little extra flour to the apple mixture helps as well.

I made this apple crisp today. It was delicious!! Thank you for sharing the recipe. We had it with a little vanilla ice cream. I used a variety of apples- gala, jazz and a Granny Smith. Definitely will make it again.
