Adding some Spring home decor accents can be done stylishly and affordably. Keeping it simple and minimal helps with the budget as well.
How do I make my house feel like Spring?
A great way to add some Spring home decor touches is to begin by incorporating some simple accessories.
- Florals (real or faux)
- Baskets
- Linens
- Produce
- Crocks
- Spring pillow covers
- Artwork
- Pitchers
- Mason Jars
Florals, like these tulips, are the pieces that seem to make the biggest change to Spring decor for my home.
How to decorate for Spring affordably?
Decorating seasonally does not have to break the bank. Spring decor can be done on a budget and here are a few ways how:
- Use every day items as decor
- Shop second hand – thrift stores, rummage sales and antique shops
We often have pieces tucked in our cupboards or just lying around that can be used for decor. A vintage mixing bowl can be used to put a potted daphodil in or a white or clear pitcher can contain some flowers.
The best part about these items is that you didn’t have to buy them!
When it comes to shopping, finding second hand stores is the way to save money. I share some tips on having success second hand shopping if you need a little encouragement in that. Several of my spring home decor pieces have been from thrifting excursions and antique shopping trips.
For Example: My crock and water color picture were both under $1 each from two different thrift store outings! Also, a few Ironstone platters were recently found that I have put on display.
The best tip I can give you for keeping a budget when decorating for Spring is to shop second hand (I think you’ll end up loving the thrill too if you aren’t a thrifter already)!
Spring Home Decor Accessories
You may be wondering where my eggs and bunnies are at? Those are wonderful Easter/Spring decor pieces and I find them adorable in many homes. However, my Spring home decor is meant to last the entire season and maintain a simple, almost minimal feel.
Our home is very small, just under 1000 sq ft, so I want to make sure I don’t overcrowd the space and that I keep things out that I enjoy. We currently have 2 toddlers with a baby soon on the way. Spending hours to decorate for each season is not a priority right now. I want my seasonal decor to be beautiful, quick and budget-friendly.
Spring Home Decor~Pitchers
Vintage pitchers are a must have for my home decor in almost any season. Spring and Summer, however are prime time to use these cottage and farmhouse inspired decor pieces. Set a pitcher on the counter with some tulips and there is a touch of Spring. Layer one or two pitchers next to each other on some open shelving left empty or brimming with blooms and you have another element of Spring.
These transition nicely also into late Spring and Summer when my Cottage Garden is vibrant with flowers and I can enjoy them even more!
Spring Home Decor~Crocks
Crocks are timeless pieces work beautifully in my cottage farmhouse aesthetic. There is often so much character with crocks, especially when they are rummage or antique finds. A crack or a chip out of one makes it all the more enjoyable to display and know the crock was well loved by a previous owner.
Set a pot of fresh tulips or bulbs into a crock, add some useful decor on the table and there we have a Spring tablescape. I also like to add some faux babybreath stems in my smaller crockers, or even leave them empty next to a stack of vintage books.
Spring Home Decor~Baskets
A simple basket can say so much. I think baskets of any kind are some of my favorite pieces to decorate with. They are simple, unique and extremely versatile! Most baskets I have found only cost between .50 to $5. Hanging baskets, a basket to set on the floor and baskets to sit on shelves are all unique and part of my Spring decor.
My basket hanging on the accordian rack above our couch was a $1 estate sale find. The faux tulips tucked gently into the basket give the space an instant Spring vibe that is simple yet seasonal.
I don’t just use baskets for decor as they are so practical for storage. Two stacked picnic baskets contain extra toys, a front porch baskets holds an umbrella and a large open basket is a blanket catch all.
Baskets to say the least, are a must have for practicality and for beauty!
Spring Home Decor~Florals
The beauty of using flowers in Spring decor is wonderful! Whether faux or real, they add such vibrance to a home. My favorite faux spring flowers are these white tulips that I found on Amazon.
They are only $1 a stem, which is quite budget friendly, and they look so real!
I also added some potted tulips and daphodils to my kitchen for some added color and life.
I found them at a local grocery store and am enjoying the blooms while they last. In my zone and climate we still have piles of snow and more weeks of freezing temperatures. It is not realistic for me to have fresh Spring florals from a garden, so I invest into faux stems. Bonus: faux stems can be used year after year!
Spring Home Decor~Artwork
Changing out the artwork for the Spring season can create a new vibe for the home. You do not have to get “Springy” pieces, just artwork you enjoy. They can be pieces that you feel speak to you and they do not have to scream Spring.
I have found some pieces that I really enjoy at different thrift shops over the years. One of my favorites is a piece that I put out for Spring and Summer. The pale pink florals on the tree just say growth and time for a new start. Yes, it is Spring themed, but when I only paid $1 for it and I truly enjoy it, then I will display it.
Spring Home Decor~Linens
There is so much joy in putting out fresh laundered and ironed linens, especially for the Spring. Lately I’ve been finding some beautiful crocheted pieces and linens at thrift stores. It seems like once I find one, then I find them all! With having found some nice linens, I knew I needed to put some out for the Spring.
A bright crisp white linen piece makes my tablescape complete. This beautiful piece was in a gallon bag of other linens for only $1.50! Now that is a bargain. We use cloth napkins in our house for every meal, so displaying them as practical decor makes complete sense. The best part about these lace trimmed napkins is that they were my grandmothers.
Use linen tea towels on your oven door for drying hands, add some linens on your peg racks, and of course display your daily used linen aprons.
Spring Home Decor~Produce
Produce does not have to be kept only in the fridge or in the pantry. What we eat can be put in cute vessels on the counters as display. My farm fresh eggs are so pretty with the browns, greens and blues. I can’t help but use my thrifted copper colander to store my eggs as they are washed. (On a side note, I do keep my eggs after they are washed in the fridge).
Fruit can also be used as Spring decor. I have purchased seasonal fruits and added them on my counter in a vintage corningware bowl. The benefit of having fruit out is that we also tend to snack on those instead of the pantry snacks. A healthy win for everyone!
