Creating a daily cleaning routine for our homes is important as homemakers. We want to maintain a welcoming and inviting space as well as keep our peace of mind with the cleanliness of our homes. A daily cleaning routine can be accomplished by working through a room or area each day of the week. This will give you less stress on the weekends and more time for the important things, like family.
Creating your daily routine
When making your daily cleaning routine it is important to keep in mind what your days look like.
For example: I clean my main living area on Fridays as we have guests over nearly every weekend. Having that space cleaned just a day or two before people come makes sense to me.
If you are a working homemaker then you may have to consider what days you have more time to allot to different areas of the home. Maybe your bathrooms will take the longest, so cleaning those on a day that you get home early from work is best. It could also be that cleaning a particular space on a Saturday or Sunday is what has to be done. Truly a daily cleaning routine comes down to what works best in your home and life situation.
Do some basic cleaning and tidying every day
As part of the weekly cleaning schedule it is very important to do the basics every day. To help keep the larger cleaning tasks less stressful, we should keep up the maintenance of the small house keeping chores.
Daily tidying and putting away of toys, mislocated items and paper clutter should happen throughout the day. When we are in one room and move to the next, grab an item that doesn’t belong and put it back. Making our beds each morning is not only good for keeping the space feel more put together, but it can also help with how we feel about starting our day well. Keep up with the laundry daily, or at least often. Washing dishes, whether by hand or with a dishwasher is a must to assist in your whole house cleaning routine. Keeping up on these smaller tasks every day will be to your advantage in the daily cleaning routine.
The weekly checklist
A daily cleaning routine needs a checklist. I have created a visual paper checklist that I follow to help keep me on track with my cleaning. Seeing what needs to get done for each day is something that assists in accomplishing the daily cleaning routine. When we can physically check off what we’ve accomplished for the day, then we are more apt to feel the success and continue.

Get others involved
Having a daily cleaning routine can be a whole family affair. We do not have to get all these tasks done on our own. If you have a spouse and/or children then see what areas of the schedule they can assist in.This is also where having a printed and visual cleaning routine checklist comes in handy. For instance, our toddler will help me dust on the days that task is required. Even if our children are young, training them now will be a great asset in the long term. My husband is also the one who makes our bed almost daily and does some nightly dishes. Sharing responsibilities, even if they are small, is a valuable part of homemaking.
Final thoughts
Having a daily cleaning routine that works for you is ideal. Follow a schedule where each day you can accomplish one area or room of your home as well as the daily tasks. Keep in mind that you can ask for help in this part of homemaking. Most importantly, enjoy the process of caring for your home and creating a space that you love.

I wipe off my stovetop, oven door and handle, my range hood and the refrigerator door handles when I do the supper dishes as a daily routine. I also do a quick daily clean of the bathrooms daily. It makes the weekly deep clean so much easier.

Yeah! I’m so glad. This is something I’ve been debating on for some time and decided just to start:)

Loving the blog! I am an empty nester and every time I’m in the kitchen I either try to wash a dish, wipe something down, etc. When I’m cooking in there I tend to scan the pantry to check for anything about to expire so I can use it that week or month. My laundry room is in my kitchen so I’m usually folding laundry at the table while I have food cooking. It’s my way of multitasking.

That is a smart idea for the pantry! A great way to be practical and frugal.
