Cozy Fall home decor can be done very affordably. Keeping the fall home decor minimal and simple with some thrifted pieces and natural elements will create a welcoming atmosphere.

The seasons have changed. We are officially in Autumn. The weather is different with cooler mornings and evenings. Leaves are slowly changing from green to red, orange and yellow. The garden flowers have dropped most their vibrant colors waiting to go dormant for the cooler months. School routines are in full swing. And life is a little more home focused. It is such a sweet time of year with all the changes and rhythms that happen.
With home being more of a focus for me, I want to create a cozy environment for the Autumn season. Our family is frugal minded and so I want to make sure my home can be lovely, yet still have a cohesive vibe. This year I really kept the decor simple, natural and frugal (of course).
Getting pumpkins from a local family farm is a tradition I have done with my kids for three years now. It’s a sweet little farm run by a lovely couple who has a mission mind behind the business. We purchase their beautiful pumpkins and ad those to our cozy fall home, inside and out. The pumpkins were about the only expense for my Fall home this year.
What decor to use for a cozy fall home
To keep the decor simple and low cost I like to use several pieces I already have, live and dried plants, pumkins and second hand items. Here are some ideas.
- Pumpkins & apples
- Dried flowers – Hydrangeas or other cut flowers from the garden
- Fresh flowers – Who says you can’t still bring in the flowers that are blooming and add some life to the home!?
- Art work
- Wheat stems – Saved from last year
- Faux pumpkins – Saved from 3 years ago
- Blankets, Scarves and Pillows – These are great to find at a garage sale or thrift store.
- Vintage books
- Candles
Beautiful Living Space for Fall
Faux pumpkins and candles
In the living space there are simple touches of fall. A few little accents is all a home needs to change the space to an inviting space for the autumn. On the coffee table are a couple stuffed pumpkins I got last year at Target for $1 and $3. With little kids they work great as they will not get smashed or broken easily. A couple candles grace the coffee table and green side table. I love bringing candles out in the Fall as the daylight is shorter. The candle holders in my home are all second hand finds from different trips out.

Pillows & Throws
Swapping out pillows for the seasons is something that changes the atmposphere of a space. Each of the three pillows I have out for Fall were only $1 from different thrift stores. The burnt orange throw was a steal at a rummage sale this Summer for only $2.
Vintage Books
Vintage books get a permanent spot on my built in shelves, however I added a couple more on my green side table with a real pumpkin on top. Simple yet cozy don’t you think?!
Art work
There a couple of “Fall” looking art pieces that I have thrifted years ago that I bring out for this season. They are so simple to swap out with another piece and add more warmth with the brown and neutral tones.

Dried Flowers and stems
Wheat stems are a fun way to add a warm tone to the fall home. Being a farmers daughter, the wheat brings back memories of sitting in the combine with my dad while he harvests. The wheat stems were from Amazon last year, however saving them from year to year keeps the cost down.
One of my favorite ways to decorate is with dried flowers. Last year I added random branches and dried frowers from my garden, which was lovely. This year however I kept it just to hydrangeas. I have a few small hydrangea bushes and I appreciate the beauty they bring in the Summer and now in my Fall home.

Our Cozy Fall Kitchen
Pumpkins & Apples
In my kitchen I enjoy the simplicity of using mini pumpkins and a candle on the table. We use our table all day long. With three meals a day at home, snacks and homeschool, the table is well used. So a more minimal centerpiece was what I went for. You can also find little pumpkins scattered throughout my kitchen.

Apples are in abundance right now and we have had our fair share of baking and cooking with them. I only had a basket left, but they get to enjoy a place on my kitchen counter.

Fresh cut flowers
Fresh flowers are not only beautiful in the Summer, but the late blooms add a lovely touch of color for Fall. My zinnias are still blooming, so I could not leave them just to the outdoors. They needed a place to add beauty in my kitchen and right on my little corner shelf was the spot.
Well friends, that is how I kept my home cozy for the Fall and on a budget. Nothing fancy, only collected and thought out pieces that bring warmth and joy to my home.
Happy Fall!
Love,
Davee
