This sourdough applesauce bread is full of all the fall flavors with the additions maple syrup, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The greek yogurt makes this bread very moist and has added protein. Add this bread to your next breakfast menu or brunch gathering!

The apples are in season right now and that means time to make homemade slow cooker applesauce. Recipe to come to the blog soon! With applesauce in abundance, I enjoy using it in other ways besides just eating. This bread is just the way to do that. This recipe also uses another one of my weekly food staples of homemade slow cooker greek yogurt.
Let’s get using those apples this season and make some delicious bread.
Tips for making sourdough discard applesauce yogurt bread
- Sourdough discard seemed to work better for me in the recipe over fed sourdough.
- Unflavored and unsweetened greek yogurt is recommended over any sweetened or just plain yogurt.
- Any applesauce will work for this recipe. I just prefer using my homemade slow cooker applesauce.
- This recipe has not been long fermented tested.

What you need
Equipment:
Mixing bowl – 2 medium
Measuring Cups
Measuring Spoons
Whisk and spoon for mixing
Ingredients:
Butter or coconut oil – melted
Applesauce – unsweetened
Maple syrup
Eggs
Sourdough discard
Greek yogurt – whole fat plain yogurt is best
Baking soda
Baking powder
Salt
Cinnamon
Ground cloves
Ground nutmeg
Flour – unbleached all-purpose
Walnuts – optional
Raisins – optional

How to make sourdough discard applesauce bread
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl combine all the dry ingredients – flour, cinnamon, ground cloves and nutmeg, salt baking soda and baking powder. Whisk gently until combined. Set the dry ingredients aside.
In another mixing bowl combine the the melted oil with the maple syrup. Add in eggs and whisk until combined. Stir in the applesauce, greek yogurt and sourdough discard.
To dry ingredients, pour in the wet ingredients and stir until thoroughly mixed.
Add the chopped walnuts and raisins if using.
Pour batter into a greased 9×5 bread pan.
Bake for 50-60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in bread comes out clean.
Let rest in pan for 10 minutes before inverting and removing.
Enjoy bread with some butter or a slather of peanut butter!


Best Sourdough Discard Applesauce Yogurt Bread

- ¾ cup applesauce unsweetened
- ½ cup sourdough discard
- ⅓ cup greek yogurt plain is best
- 2 eggs
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ tsp salt
- 1½ cups all-purpose unbleached flour more may be needed depending on how runny the discard was you used.
