Summer home decor can be added to the home in an affordable yet stylish way. Keeping to a budget can be accomplished with minimal touches.
How to add summer home decor touches?
Summer decor can be added with some simple accessories:
*Fresh Cut flowers
*Hats
*Wicker baskets
*Linens
*Crocks
*Galvanized buckets
*Pitchers
*Lightened pillow covers
*Blue Mason jars and glass jars

If you had a chance to read my Thrifty Cottage Farmhouse Spring Decor post, then you recognized some of these decor elements to be the same. Keeping some pieces the same helps me maintain that simple and minimal look without having to change much.
How to decorate for Summer on a budget?
You can add summer decor touches without dipping into your savings or into that vacation fund and here are a few ways how:
- Choose to shop second hand/rummage sales.
- Bring the outdoors in!
- Use pieces you already have.
- Move different items from room to room.
Spring and Summer time are my favorite times to shop home decor as rummage sales are all around. The majority of what you see as decor in my home came from a rummage sale or second hand store. If I see a rummage sale sign, I will no doubt be stopping to check it out.

Using fresh cut flowers and herbs as decor is one of the best and most affordable ways to decorate. Free to me is always great! I have my own cottage style garden where I can get my stems to bring in.
There is no shame in using what you already have or moving an item from one space to a different space. For example: I have moved different throw pillows from my bed into the living area. Different vintage plates I’ve swapped out from my storage bins.
Summer Home Decor pieces
Being a mom of three little kids, I don’t feel the need to add a plethora of decor pieces each season. The Summer months especially are a very busy time being in the gardens, family outings, and also having a newborn. In my current stage of life, decor needs to be lovely, practical and minimal.
Summer Decor: Fresh Cut Flowers
Using fresh cut flowers inside the house is such an affordable way to add Summer to a home. I love strolling through my cottage style garden, but I also enjoy bringing those beautiful flowers into my house. If you don’t have your own flower garden then ask a neighbor if they have flowers you could enjoy. Head to an open field and collect some wild flowers, or if those are not an option, buy some at a farmers market.

Summer Decor: Hats & Wicker baskets
Straw hats are a very practical way to add decor for the season. I will grab my hat off the peg rack or chair and wear it out to the garden. They don’t have to be expensive to purchase either, as I’ve found all of mine for a couple dollars each at rummage sales or thrift stores.

Baskets sitting by the door, or hanging on a hook are great decor pieces. They are also useful for grabbing to pick some flowers or fresh produce. My home is complete with a dozen or more different baskets and I always pick some up when I’m out rummaging (it’s a weakness).
Summer Decor: Linens and Lighter pillows
Lighter colored linens and pillow covers are a simple way to decorate for Summer. Get a few tea towels or grain sack towels to add to a peg rack or oven door. My striped and checkered linen towels in my kitchen were a $2 find for the pair at an antique store!
Lighter, more neutral pillows/covers is how I have added some changes to my living space for Summer. Some The checkered pillow covers were a bargain off Amazon and the pink pillow was a .50 find at a recent rummage sale! I highly recommend swapping out pillow covers instead of buying a new pillow however, when 5 nice pillows are for sale at a rummage for .50 each, I will not pass that up.

Summer Decor: Crocks
Using crocks for the cottage farmhouse house Summer look is timeless. Crocks are beautiful in a home year round, but they can also showcase some cut flowers or just sit empty by a chair. If you are looking to buy a crock, again, the Summer months are best. Rummage sale prices are much more affordable than antique stores or onine. I have not paid over $10 for any of my crocks in my home and I have 10 or more displayed throughout.
Summer Decor: Pitchers & Glass jars
Using vintage pitchers and glass jars for Summer decor works best by adding fresh cut flowers! Pitchers are another farmhouse style look that works great for Summer. As you can see, I have multiple different sizes of pitchers scattered throughout my home with fresh cut flowers, faux flowers and even sitting empty. My most recent thrifted pitcher that I have on my side table in the living room was a find for less than $1.

Glass jars can be beautiful for Summer by adding florals. Pick up a few vases or jars at a rummage sale or thirft store and put a stem or two in it and you’ve got an added Summer look. The apothecary jars with the daisies on my kitchen table were free to me. My mom was given a box full and she passed them on for me to use. The simple look of the varying heights, shapes and sizes with a few daisies is a joy to look at on our eat in kitchen table.

Well friends, those are some budget-friendly and simple ways to add the cottage farmhouse feel to your home for the Summer.

Amazing tips! As I strive to live simply, I’ve truly learned less is more! I enjoy beautifying my home with thrifted items but was overspending and cluttered my home. I appreciate your advice as I go along this path.☺️🌻❤️
That is one struggle that can become of thrifting. I am glad you were able to recognize the overspending and clutter and stick with the less is more idea.
