Pantry Staples

October 17, 2024 by Davee Kilian Leave a Comment

Having the right pantry staples in the kitchen is crucial for anyone who spends any amount of time cooking or baking. I am sharing what itens are in my kitchen and where I get these pantry staples.

Canned pantry items, such as sugars, flours, nuts and dried fruit.

Over the years of learning homemaking skills, I have come to realize the importance of having quality and quantity in my pantry. Living in a small town does not always allow for me to run to the nearest Supermarket to get what I might need for a meal I am making. I have had to recognize how to plan ahead and also buy more bulk for my pantry staples.

We do buy our meat, milk, eggs, honey and now our maple syrup from local farms. I try to source organic and local as often as I can for our family of five. If we do not get those items, however, we tend to buy from Costo, Amazon and Azure Standard. Let me share some of my families pantry staples and a few other (fun) food items that we get.

Costco

Whole Bean Coffee – This whole bean coffee is not organic, however, we enjoy the flavor of the roast and how it works in our espresso machine.

All-purpose Flour – Either the King Arthur brand or the Kirkland organic all-purpose we get from here. You will see that I also get bulk flour from Azure Standard.

Brown Sugar – The organic brown sugar from Costco is a better price than I seem to find other places. Can’t go wrong with that. There is no link for this item, but it is in the stores.

Marinara Sauce – No I do not make my own sauces. This organic sauce has no added sugar, which is very rare to find. We like the taste and quality of this brand.

Ketchup – We do like our condiments and the three pack lasts our family several months.

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil – I use this quite often, so it is a must in our pantry. Good price point too.

Almond Flour Crackers – This is one of our (fun) pantry staples. We eat crackers with our soups in the cooler months and with meat and chees in the Summer months. The ingredients are pretty clean, which is a huge bonus.

Natural Organic Peanut Butter – This is a must in our house. We are a huge nut butter family and really enjoy this organic, natural peanut butter.

Almond Butter – We

Amazon

Before I share what I get from Amazon, I will just say that sometimes I honestly get the items here for convenience. The price may be just a bit more on some things, however, weighing out the drive time to our city or ordering online is a comparison I often make.

Organic Decaf Coffee Beans – I enjoy my decaf Americano or Latte every afternoon. The dark roast of these beans are delicious and I appreciate not having caffeine later in the day.

Cane Sugar – A larger bag for a decent price. This brand is found on Azure Standard, I just tend to buy several bags at a time from Amazon. Especially during the holiday time.

Einkorn flour – Again, this can be found on Azure Standard. The price comparison is very similar, so I get it on Amazon.

Baking Soda – A must for anyone who bakes.

Redmond Sea Salt – The best salt I have ever tasted. I make sure to never run out of this staple.

Cocoa Powder – This dutch processed cocoa powder has a rich flavor that I enjoy.

Cinnamon – I just purchased this brand for the first time a couple month ago. With Fall being here and needing those cozy spices, I found this one. It has a nice and strong flavor as well

Cinnamon Sticks – A must for the Fall and Winter season.

Active Yeast packets – I’ve been doing more baking with yeast and I found these packets that I like. It’s not too many packets for the amount that I do yeast doughs, but it’s also convenient in the packs.

Molasses – This may seem like an odd one to get from Amazon. I do not use molasses other than for a couple recipes. One of those recipes is my Chewy Ginger Molasses cookies, which I give out for my Christmas goodies.

Purely Elizabeth Pumpkin Cinnamon Granola – This is a (fun) purchase. I do make my own granola, but this is so good and also has clean ingredients. Granola is a staple in our house and this is one of my favorites.

Zevia – Another (fun) purchase. My husband enjoys drinking these as we do not drink any other beverages other than coffee, tea or water. It’s a nice treat every once in a while.

Raw Cashews and Walnuts – Raw nuts are great for snacks, baking and roasting. I’ve been quite pleased with them and continue to buy these to roast myself.

Date Syrup – This syrup is a must for the pantry. A great alternative to maple syrup and delicious!

Dates – Again, this is the Terrasoul brand. I use dates in some of my protein bars, granola bars and especially at the end of my pregnancies. They are a nice quality and do not disappoint.

Organic Raisins – Another must have for my family. Snacks, add-ins to baked goods and just because.

Whey Protein powder – I finally found a protein powder that our family likes. It is grassfed and high quality. Great for adding to my protein bars and smoothies.

Olive Oil – I know this brand can be found everywhere, but this is a must for much of my cooking.

Basmati Rice – A cheaper staple that lasts for quite some time.

Canned Salmon – Wild Alaskan caught salmon. Another great staple to have in the pantry.

Canned Tuna – Wild caught tuna that is a staple for those quick meals.

Azure Standard

There are so many wonderful products from Azure Standard. I’ve started getting more and more from this company as the quality is par none. If you do want to be part of the Azure community use my link. All new Azure Standard customers are automatically included in the Azure Standard customer Share program. It has great benefits! An Azure credit of $25.00 is applied to a referrer’s Azure account once a referral also sets up a free account and makes their first purchase of products (minimum $100 not including shipping) within 60 days. It is Azure Standard’s way of saying Thank you!

bulk food in 5 gallon buckets and brown paper bags.

Organic All-Purpose Flour – Such a great price for high quality flour.

Rolled Oats – We use oats so often that it is worth buy this in 10 to 25 pounds. It can be bought in a smaller weight.

Dried Cranberries – These are great because they are apple juice infused and not with refined sugar. Good for snacks and salads.

Organic Powdered Sugar – This is our first time getting this, but I know it will be used plenty during the holiday time.

Raw Almonds – Again, I really enjoy buying raw almonds as a staple. These are crunchy and delicious.

Several of our other staples are not “pantry” related but more refrigerator or freezer staples. Here are a few more from Azure that I buy and have on hand.

Sour Cream – There is no better, creamier and thicker sour cream than Nancy’s. It is always in our frig.

Heavy Cream – We do get raw milk and some cream from a local dairy. We use too much cream however so this is good to have always in our refrigerator.

Raw White Cheddar Cheese – If you watch my videos, you know this is a must for us. We get the 5 pound blocks and divide it out into smaller portions. The flavor is so rich and creamy.

Organic Butter – This butter is some of the best butter I’ve ever tasted. Worth the investment and always in our freezer and frig.

Having a well stocked pantry is crucial for a homemaker in the kitchen. These are several of the items that we keep as our pantry staples. There are some that were not mentioned, as the list would be too extensive. Hopefully you can find a few of these to add to your pantry staples, and enjoy them as much as our family does.
