Ever since I learned how simple hummus really is to make, I have been choosing to do so. Often times I think we feel that foods such as this will be too complicated to make ourselves, but really they are not. It just takes keeping a few ingredients on hand and taking five minutes to whip this together.

I’m all for swapping out store bought for homemade. One of the reasons I make this easy hummus recipe is because I control what gets put into it. Many of the store bought hummus packages have canola or sunflower oil in them. In this recipe, I use avocado oil or olive oil.

Tips for making the best hummus:

~ Do not over add the liquid. It is better to error on the side of too thick and then add a little more juice or oil as needed.

~ I have made this recipe with home canned chickpeas, raw chick peas that I cooked in an instant pot and store bought chickpeas. They all work fine, but you will have to adjust the liquid again for each type you use.

~ The hummus can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the frig before using.

~ This is the basic recipe. You can change it up by adding garlic powder, roasted garlic, roasted and chopped peppers or choose herbs of your choice.

If you try this recipe and enjoy it please come back and give this recipe 5 stars.
