Holiday time is such a special time to enjoy fun foods and beverages. In my family growing up we had a tradition on Christmas Eve of performing in our church Christmas pageant, driving around to look at lights and coming home to enjoy a glass of homemade eggnog. For me, eggnog brings back those core memories, but it also is a super fun drink to make from scratch! My mother has shared this recipe with me and I am sharing with you all to enjoy and create memories around.

TIPS ON MAKING EASY HOMEMADE EGGNOG

  • Use whole milk or even heavy cream. For a richer and fuller flavor I highly encourage this. Lower fat milks will work, however, they will lack in that delicious and creamy texture.
  • You do not need to temper the eggs. Raw eggs are how this recipe is originally made. I’ve never gotten sick in my many many years of drinking it as a child into adult years.
  • Make sure to mix the sugar in well as it tends to settle.
  • This recipe works with refined sugar or cane sugar. I have not tested it with any other sweetener options.
  • Stir the eggnog in the fridge when chilling to keep ingredients mixed. Stir or shake well before serving.
  • My favorite addition is a dash of nutmeg on top before drinking.

WHAT YOU NEED

Equipment

Large bowl or stand up mixer

Handheld mixer – if not using a stand up mixer

Measuring cups – for liquid and dry ingredients

Measuring spoons

Fun glasses for drinking the eggnog in (optional)

Ingredients

Eggs

Milk – Whole milk is good or cream adds an even richer and creamier texture.

Vanilla – Use a good quality vanilla as it really enhances the flavor.

Sugar – I prefer to use cane sugar, however refined sugar does work too.

Nutmeg – (optional) For sprinkling on the top.

HOW TO MAKE EGGNOG

In a large bowl, beat eggs until light and foamy.

Add sugar, beating until thick and lemon colored.

Stir in cream and vanilla.

Chill at least 3 hours.

Just before serving, sprinkle with nutmeg.

Enjoy!
