- 6 eggs
- ¾ cup sugar cane sugar is what I like to use
- 1 quart milk whole milk or heavy cream
- 2 tsp vanilla good quality
- nutmeg a dash for the top of the drink
In a large bowl, beat eggs until light and foamy.
Add sugar, beating until thick and lemon colored.
Stir in cream and vanilla.
Chill at least 3 hours.
Just before serving, sprinkle with nutmeg. Enjoy!
- Use whole milk or even heavy cream. For a richer and fuller flavor I highly encourage this. Lower fat milks will work, however, they will lack in that delicious and creamy texture.
- You do not need to temper the eggs. Raw eggs are how this recipe is originally made. I've never gotten sick in my many many years of drinking it as a child into adult years.
- Make sure to mix the sugar in well as it tends to settle.
- This recipe works with refined sugar or cane sugar. I have not tested it with any other sweetener options.
- Stir the eggnog in the fridge when chilling to keep ingredients mixed. Stir or shake well before serving.
- My favorite addition is a dash of nutmeg on top before drinking.
