Summer Cottage Garden

July 22, 2026 by Davee Kilian Leave a Comment

The Summer cottage garden is always so lovely with a whimsical feel and many flowers in bloom. We will be exploring this years backyard Summer cottage garden with all it’s glory and character.

This year, Summer 2026, the cottage garden has been lovely. The blooms that are about are so full and the garden is thriving with bees and butterflies.

My garden has been a work in progress for many years now. It started with just the west side of our garage area and then grew into another garden on the north side. The years have seen so much change and new flowers each year. Yes, there are also weeds that creep in and boarders that are not perfect, but that’s part of keeping a garden.

The stepping stone garden

This garden was made to allow the kids a whimsical garden to wander through. Over time the flowers have grown over some of the stepping blocks, but it still is fun for my kids to make their way through.

As we view the cottage style garden a massive grouping of vibrant pink echinachea is flower that is showcased.

A small black-eyed susan finds it’s place next to the echinachea on one side. An ever growing climbing rose is a feature in the garden next to the echinachea, leading through our pathway. The rose is beautiful and full in early Summer with peach and cream flowers.

Some purple phlox are also scattered throughout the garden along with some daisies, which bloom in early Summer as well.

Towering above everything else are a couple yellow cup flowers. This is a beautiful flower that collects water in the cuplike leaves for butterflies and birds to drink from.Tansy is tucked behind the rose bush and just started blooming.

If you are catching on, there are many herbs in my cottage garden. They are beautiful and can also be used medicinally, which I have been working on doing more of this year.

The North Side Garden

This portion of the cottage garden connects through the arch creating a lovely grass walkway. So many bees and butterflies come through this section as they love all the mint and bee balm that are in this garden.

There is also a beautiful array of pink echinachea in this section scattered throughout. In the back section the tall yellow flowers are a type of echinachea (so I’ve been told). My holly hocks have finally bloomed this year after having been living in this garden for three years. Mullein, another herb, stood towering over my head and bloomed beautifully this year.

Some other low ground cover that are always classic to have in my garden are hen and chicks, ground phlox and stone crop.

The cottage garden can have so many unique flowers scattered througout. It is a garden meant to be whimsical and a little more care-free. I love the unique style that each cottage garden brings as it is showcasing each particular person’s style. My garden is never done and is in continual change. I love the joy it brings me, but also the joy it brings others who come to wander through the blooms.

I hope that you can create a lovely garden space wherever you are.

Blessings,

Davee
