Life can be busy for many of us, and having a healthy and filling snack is a must. These chewy power bars are packed with nutritious ingredients and a few fun add-ins.

If you are like me then you want to feed your family snacks and food that will be filling and healthy. Store bought granola bars and protein bars can contain many added ingredients that are not necessary for our diets.

These protein bars are a staple in our house. We can eat through a pan in a couple weeks, if I don’t freeze a few for later! We pack them on road trips, eat them for an afternoon pick me up or give as a snack to our kids. The fun part about these bars too, is kids love to mix them up and there is an endless option for add-ins.

Supplies needed:

mixing bowl

spoon

9×13 baking dish

Ingredients for Protein Bars:

quick or rolled oats

natural peanut butter (or nut butter of your choice)

raw honey

ground flax seed

vanilla protein powder

Add-ins:

dried cranberries

raisins

dark chocolate chips

Why make your own protein bars?

Like I stated earlier, store bought bars can have many added ingredients that are not needed for our bodies. Processed ingredients like corn syrup, some added colors and other items to keep them shelf stable, are just not necessary. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a Larabar or RXBar every once in a while, however, they get rather expensive too.

Instead of grabbing a box of granola bars for your kids or you to snack on, make a batch of these power bars together.

Tips for the best bars!

~ Make these bars with creamy natural peanut butter. The mixture will stir together much easier.

~ Have your honey be in liquid state for better mixing results.

~ Make sure to use ground flax seed. Whole flax is not as digestible and will not absorb into the bars as well.

Step by Step recipe:

In a large mixing bowl add all the ingredients together. Stir until well blended.

Spread the mixture into a 9×13 pan and refrigerate for a few hours or freeze for 30 minutes. You can also use a 9×9 pan, which would make much thicker bars.

Cut bars into desired size (usually 1.5-2 inch squares) and store in an airtight container in the fridge. These bars can be refrigerated for 1-2 weeks or frozen for later use.
