Cuisine American
- 2 eggs
- 1½ cups sugar I like to use cane sugar
- ½ cup butter melted
- Dash of salt
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 3 tsp cinnamon
- 2 cups flour unbleached all-purpose
- 4 cups apples peeled and sliced or diced
- 1 cup nuts optional, chopped
Preheat oven to 350 °F
Mix sugar and butter together. Stir in eggs and vanilla until well combined. Add in the dry ingredients - salt, flour, baking soda and cinnamon.
Fold in the peeled and diced or sliced apples. Batter will seem really thick but do not be worried.
Spread the cake batter in the greased 9x13 pan.
Bake for 55 minutes in the preheated 350 degree oven.
Caramel Topping
In a small saucepan bring the butter, brown sugar and heavy cream or ice cream to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes while constantly stirring.
Pour over cut pieces of cake just before serving. Cake is good warm or cold.
Store on counter for 3 days or in fridge for 5 days.
- Peel the apples. The skin left on the apple will make it harder to chew and ruin the softness of the cake.
- The apples can be diced or sliced into this cake. For the recipe in the pictures I peeled and sliced the apples.
- Bake until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean. Do not over bake or it will not remain as moist.
- Melt the butter. There is no mixer needed for this recipe because the butter does not have to be creamed.
- Nuts would be a nice addition. I did not add them in for this recipe but have added them before.
- This cake will taste just as good the next day as the day you made it.
